This term I’ve been dipping in and out of the excellent Ed Tech Playbook by Olly Lewis and Mark Anderson (there’s even a case study on me in there!). It has inspired me to experiment with using historical chatbots in my next lesson on the Battle of Bosworth.

The sequence begins with reading comprehension and timeline tasks, before moving on to planning and conducting interviews with Henry Tudor and Richard III. Students will then use the free-to-access studentai website to “chat” directly with the two kings and gather answers to their questions.

This will feed into a structured task on causes, events, and consequences, followed by a creative activity to check understanding. For stretch and challenge, students will also use the excellent www.getthebadgein.net to connect the Wars of the Roses with the modern world of English football teams.
